From Nasa's Facebook page this morning:
"Pluto has sent a love note back to Earth via our New Horizons spacecraft, which has traveled more than 9 years and 3+ billion miles. This is the last and most detailed image of Pluto sent to Earth before the moment of closest approach, which was at 7:49 a.m. EDT today. Images from the #PlutoFlyby will be processed and released on Wednesday, July 15. More to come!"
It's easier to remember how small we are and how short life is when moments like this happen. But also... how long and full life is. Think of what you've done in the last 9 years. All the little discoveries you've made. The changes you've seen. The hurdles you've jumped. The zillions of times you laughed or sighed or cried.
I left a long relationship and started a new one. I quit my job. I lived unemployed and traveled for awhile. I found a new job that I never imagined I'd find. I've moved over and over and over until I finally landed in my dream apartment with my quiet little dream life. I started wearing dresses after 30+ years of being a legit jeans only tomboy. Sometimes I was bored and sometimes I just played video games. I've been to opening nights, funerals, weddings. I grew up a lot and also learned how to relax a little more. Yada yada yada.
And all the while this spacecraft was making it's way to Pluto to take this photo for us.
